Hello there! Although it’s late Friday night, we didn’t get WiFi until yesterday, so bear with me… :)
We have just completed day one of our first ever road trip, and I am proud to report, there have been no adventures so far! :) If you know David and I, or the Brown family in general, you know that this it is uncommon for us to go on vacation without something happening (a blown tire, a rock stuck in the breaks, leaks…you can imagine).
David and I got up pretty early (7:00 a.m.) and loaded up the car. After making a quick stop at McDonalds for our breakfast of champions, we continued down 99W to begin our trip. However, after talking to my dad, we decided it would be wise to listen to him and stop at a tire place to see if we could find a spare tire to have just in casesomething was to go wrong. Praise the Lord; our first stop at Les Shawb was a success! A wheel and a tire for $60! Whoo hoo!
We got back on the road and began our 6-hour journey to Wallowa Lake State Park. It actually took about 9 hours, but we made a few stops along the way. Some of our stops included a bathroom stop in Boardman, a gas stop and viewpoint lookout in Pendleton, a stop at Riteaid to buy matching straw cowboy hats, lunch at Safeway, among others. It may have taken us a while to get here, but hey, it’s our trip and we can choose our stops and routes. :)
When we got through Joseph on our way here, we couldn’t believe how gorgeous the mountains here are! They are still snow topped and stand majestically as a backdrop to the town. Definitely something worth seeing, if you haven’t already.
Where we ware staying is only 10 minutes or so outside Joseph and were surprised to see three deer waiting to welcome us at our campsite. They must be really used to be people, because we were able to get within a few feet from them before they even perked their ears. The girl at the site next to us even handfed them!
We got camp all set up, including our awesome tent (without breaking any of the tent poles this time…haha), and got situated. We are in campsite E-10, which, if you ever decide to come here and tent camp, this is the place to get. It’s about as wide as three campsites and backs up to a small field. We have neighbors but since the site is so big, it’s not a big deal.
David cooked up some hot dogs and chili on our grill/camp stove, and I got to spend time sitting and reading a magazine. :) Do I have a great husband or what?
For the rest of the night, we played catch with a football (which was flat before we left, but completely inflated from the altitude. Score!) and sat by the fire and talked. A few clouds rolled in, but we were able to look at a few stars and the moon shining so bright it was like a spotlight.
Perfect ending to a great day.
